REVIEW: Dirty Cops: L.A(2021)

 So I watched Dirty Cops L.A over this past weekend and let me tell y'all, it was so good! 

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Just think of a combination of Bad Boys 2 and Training Day. Det. Jackson and Johnson had the chemistry of Marcus Barnett and Mike Lowery but the biggest twist was that they were corrupt as hell. Dirty Cops LA stars @IAMJOEY as Det. Jackson, G. Wells as Det. Johnson, and Slink Johnson as Capt Davis. The supporting cast is Cynthia Luciette, and I.V League as Det. Rawlings and T.J.

The Good:

Let's start with the story line and main plot. I liked that this movie was listed as an action movie, but it also had comedic elements. All the jokes and punchlines landed great from the actors who I later learned were also comedians! The only actor that I recognized was Slink Johnson who started as Black Jesus on Adult Swim. Johnson literally kills every role that he plays so I was not surprised that he was also just as corrupt as at the cops that he’s supposed to be supervising 🤣 Det. Jackson and Johnson are playing by their own rules and are terrorizing the people, especially T.J, just like Alonzo did in Training Day. I loved the running gag of Det. Johnson being overweight, but also halfway thru the film, characters start to notice that he was losing weight 🤣 This film didn’t over do the typical "trying to make it out the hood" urban movie tropes that other independent movies seem to use as a plot device. I can appreciate this movie for not being too predictive and giving us viewers a good supporting cast to tell a great story.

I loved that the star of this movie was also the writer and director, @IAMJOEY. He was great in front of the camera, behind the scenes as a director, and on paper as a writer. The movie’s plot in itself didn't leave me as a viewer bored and confused so I can appreciate that. The plot twist at the end of the Captain being corrupt too was one I was not expecting, but so glad that it was left open so that there could be a sequel (rumor has it that a series is in development, YAY!)


The Bad:

Honestly I don't have anything bad to say about this film. Usually this would be the part where I point out plot holes and continuity issues but none come to mind when I'm watching this film. Hoping that the characters can continue to develop in a realistic way!

I recommend you all to watch this movie. It is currently streaming on Tubi  and Prime Video, with plans for it to be on more streaming platforms in the future!

    Hey I 👋🏿 loved that movie 🍿 was very funny to me and came to me at a very goodtime when I needed a Good laughter which is good for the SouL….😇😁🤣

Review-NIGHT SWIM(2024)

Yesterday I got the chance to watch the new supernatural horror/thriller called Night Swim, but by the time the film revealed its main plot point, it had NOTHING to do with night or swimming. Night Swim was brought to us by the producers behind M3GAN and The Nun, which were also very underwhelming and overrated. Blumhouse is the company behind this, so my interest was peaked. I thought this film had great potential because it had two elements that scared the shit out of me….Water and The Dark. Can yall believe at my big grown age of 35 I can’t swim and am still afraid of the dark lol. In the cold opening of this film, we see a little girl who looks to be about eight or nine, she’s looking for a toy boat in the pool. 2024 IS HERE! Recaps With Mae is BACK!

Did y'all miss me? Because I definitely missed y'all! 2023 I was all over the place and so busy chasing views on TikTok that doing film and tv reviews began to overwhelm me and feel like work. I tried a few gimmicks to get views but ultimately my content began to suffer, and I just didn't wanna do it anymore.  Starting in January my best friend, Neecey, and I started a podcast that was so fun, but came with many challenges.  We consistently got together every week for anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours to talk about our favorite horror movies.
