REVIEW-Monogamish(2023)
HAPPY NEW YEAR Y'ALL!!
I’m so excited for all the new movies that are to come this year. With that being said, I wanted to let you all know about the very first independent film I watched on Tubi called Monogamish.
Synopsis: Zane a successful real-estate broker, is asked by her husband if they could see other people and help their marriage succeed.
What I liked:
As expected the production quality was good, acting was a little stale at times, but the cast exceeded my overall expectations. I loved the cinematography of this film, especially the aerial shots of the city. This film was directed and written by Marquand Ragland. Monogamish was my introduction to this North Carolina based director, and I must say he did a good job. Monogamish was a breath of fresh air as my first review of the year. Of course this film had its share of betrayal and backstabbing, but it was written very well and tastefully.
What needed work:
Although I thought Zane's character was very relatable, I feel like her character development could’ve been written better. Zane's character development was a little predictable at times, and I couldn't figure out why a woman so smart and ambitious couldn't piece together what was happening behind her back! The subplot involving her husband was great, but I thought it would've made a better main plot instead.
Even with that being said, I still enjoyed the film and recommend it!
Here are my ratings:
Acting: B-
Character Development: B-
Production Quality: A
Storyline/Main Plot: B-
Writing/Directing: B+
Cinematography: A
Overall I’d rate Monogamish 8/10⭐️ It was a fun story that didn't confuse me or distract me with plot holes. As usual, I'd suggest going into this film with an open mind, so that you can appreciate the story for what it is.
