Review-NIGHT SWIM(2024)

Image
Yesterday I got the chance to watch the new supernatural horror/thriller called Night Swim, but by the time the film revealed its main plot point, it had NOTHING to do with night or swimming. Night Swim was brought to us by the producers behind M3GAN and The Nun, which were also very underwhelming and overrated. Blumhouse is the company behind this, so my interest was peaked. I thought this film had great potential because it had two elements that scared the shit out of me….Water and The Dark. Can yall believe at my big grown age of 35 I can’t swim and am still afraid of the dark lol. In the cold opening of this film, we see a little girl who looks to be about eight or nine, she’s looking for a toy boat in the pool. She goes to reach for it, and I already knew she was going somehow to fall in, which she did. I wasn’t sure where they were going with this, but after her being pulled in and we get the title card, I knew they’d eventually circle back at some point.   After the title card w

2024 IS HERE! Recaps With Mae is BACK!

Did y'all miss me? Because I definitely missed y'all! 2023 I was all over the place and so busy chasing views on TikTok that doing film and tv reviews began to overwhelm me and feel like work. I tried a few gimmicks to get views but ultimately my content began to suffer, and I just didn't wanna do it anymore.  Starting in January my best friend, Neecey, and I started a podcast that was so fun, but came with many challenges.  We consistently got together every week for anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours to talk about our favorite horror movies. From January to September we covered the entire Scream and Child's Play franchise, the phenomenal Swarm series, Tales From the Hood, the original CandyMan from 1992 and its remake from 2021.  WHEW!  We stayed consistent even though life started life-ing, but ultimately we had to take a hiatus when we both got new jobs working overnights. We plan on getting back to the podcast since we have since gotten momentum on our F

RECAP-BMF(Ep.1)

Image
Season 2 of BMF is back on our tv screens, and immediately we are back into the bs. We start the episode off seeing Meech in Las Vegas, and while he’s there he sees all the top players in drug game. He plans on bringing back some keys with him to Detroit but not before he notices drug dogs at the airport. Meech being the quick thinker that he is he decides to take a bus instead. Back in Detroit Terry is still out the drug game but he has his eyes on a different prize. With his baby mom seemingly out the picture he tries to holler at a woman name Keisha, played by LaLa Anthony. Now, side note, this may be a hot take but I’m just tired of seeing LaLa on my TV screen. I feel like that role could’ve gone to a fresh new upcoming actress, but I digress šŸ¤·šŸ¾‍♀️ Anywho, we see throughout this episode that meech and Terry are not exactly speaking, not that there any beef but they just aren’t seeing eye to Terry’s one eyešŸ¤£šŸ¤£sorry I couldn’t help myselfšŸ¤£ Terry is trying to make an honest living

REVIEW-HOUSE PARTY(2023)

Image
Ok, so it's officially been 24 hours since I've watched the remake of House Party. Immediately leaving the theater, I was smiling from ear to ear with satisfaction. I was smiling mostly because my 90s inner kid was full.  This film paid homage to the original House Party in a way that was very tasteful without trying too hard. Lots of people will have their opinions about this film and hold it directly up to the original, but I don't think that's necessary because House Party 2023 isn't trying to take the place of the original, it's just telling a similar story about friendship and bad decisions that work out in the end. This film was funny without trying to be funny, and I could tell by the bloopers shown at the end, that the cast had a great time filming. What I Liked:  I told myself that I would not compare this film to the original 1990 House Party , and just view it with an open mind, but I couldn't help but to watch and wait for the call backs to the

New House Party film? Will it live up to the hype or will it crash and burn?

So when I initially heard about a remake of the 1990 classic House Party, I immediately dismissed it.  Up until last week I still wasn’t sold, but after watching the trailer and doing a bit of research, I can say that I’m willing to give it a watch and go into it with an open mind. House Party starts Jacob Latimore and Tosin Cole. It’s directed by Calmatic and written by Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori.  Here are some reasons why I think this film may stand a chance to be good. 1. It has an ensemble cast and crew behind the scenes 2. New Line Cinema and Lebron James’ Springhill Productions are behind this film  3. It’s rated R 4. Kid & Play seem to be in support of this project Also judging by the trailer, there will be a few cameos, and surprise guests at this partyšŸ˜®I don’t have any expectations and I plan on going into this film with an open mind, hopefully with Stephen Glover and Jamal Olori (both writers on FX's Atlanta ) behind the scenes they’ll find a way to give us some

REVIEW-Monogamish(2023)

Image
HAPPY NEW YEAR Y'ALL!! I’m so excited for all the new movies that are to come this year. With that being said, I wanted to let you all know about the very first independent film I watched on Tubi called Monogamish. Synopsis: Zane a successful real-estate broker, is asked by her husband if they could see other people and help their marriage succeed. What I liked:  As expected the production quality was good, acting was a little stale at times, but the cast exceeded my overall expectations. I loved the cinematography of this film, especially the aerial shots of the city. This film was directed and written by Marquand Ragland. Monogamish was my introduction to this North Carolina based director, and I must say he did a good job. Monogamish was a breath of fresh air as my first review of the year. Of course this film had its share of betrayal and backstabbing, but it was written very well and tastefully. What needed work:  Although I thought Zane's character was very relatable, I f

REVIEW: A Verry Merry Hood Christmas(2022)

So I watched A Verry Merry Hood Christmas yesterday on Tubi , and it was better than I expected it would be ! We now have another hood Christmas movie to watch besides Friday After Next This is another film directed by Thomas L. Harris, who is known for the groundbreaking films such as Plug Love , Buffed Up , and Birthday Behavior . If you liked those films I’m sure you’ll like this one too A Verry Merry Hood Christmas was a feel good christmas film, that tells us the unconventional story of a family that cherishes their time together, even while they have their own individual relationship issues. I personally love that this film has an ensemble cast from all our favorite independent films such as Thomas Harris, Sino Harris, Comic JWill, KC Clark, and Da'Carla Strong. Here’s my ratings: Acting: A Production Quality: B Plot/ Storyline: B Cinematography: A Writing/Directing:  A Editing : A Overall, I’d give A Verry Merry Hood Christmas a 9.6/10 I’d recommend this film if you haven’

REVIEW: Tiffany The Doll(2022)

Image
Ok, so I watched Tiffany The Doll recently because people kept talking about it, all over social media. While other people have their opinions of it, I enjoyed the storyline and main plot.  Tiffany The Doll is a horror movie that involves a series of sex dolls coming to life and killing their owners. I’m a big fan on horror movies so an all black cast peaked my interest even more. This film was written, directed, and produced by Felicia Rivers, who also has directed other films such as Treasure Box , and Lilith's Ball . Tiffany The Doll is the first film of her's that I have viewed, and it was a fun time! What I Enjoyed: I enjoyed the main plot. Something about sex dolls coming alive and murdering their owners kept me wondering what was next, and each man that bought a doll was so blinded by sex that they couldn’t see the clear signs that their lives were in dangeršŸ¤£ The acting in this film was very authentic by the whole cast, especially the actresses who were playing the doll

REVIEW: Com•pli•cat•ed- The Series

Image
So when The Cori Luv Show suggested a series called Complicated, I jumped right on it!  Y’all, this series is soooooooooo GOODT and had me in a chokehold from beginning to end!  What’s even better is that season 2 is coming soon šŸ‘€ The Good: Let's start from the very beginning of episode 1. We see Devon (Mo) and her husband having a heated debate. Clearly she has done something wrong and is begging for forgiveness. Her husband, is not even trying to hear it, as he still walks out! Right out the gate the writing on this series is strong, because they leave that tiny detail out until episodes later. The episode continues 6 months later where Devon is enjoying a meal with her two best friends Erica and Val.  This series features a great deal of mess and drama in a soap opera setting, which is something I loved! Season 1 consists of six 30 minute episodes, and just like with hit series Insecure , the time seemed to fly by leaving me THIRSTY for more, and that's how I kn

REVIEW: The Dirty D(Series)

Image
So I watched a new series called The Dirty D, and y’all it was soooo GOODT! This series consists of 6 episodes, with each episode being about 30 minutes (with the exception of the season premiere being about 45 mins long). Ya'll know I love mess and drama, so this series was right up my alley. The series quickly introduces us to the crew and bottle girls that works at the HOTTEST night club called the Dirty D, in Detroit, MI. Not only are the staff messy at The Dirty D, but the shady couple who run it have secrets of their own, that may or may not come to light! The creator of The Dirty D is multi-talented Lisa Brown, or credited as Ms. LB . Other projects from her production company include:   He Played Me 1 & 2 ,  These Men For Everybody , and Ultimate Betrayal . Ms. LB does a fantastic job telling us viewers a story of these characters, but also leaves us guessing what could be next! I look forward to the upcoming season of The Dirty D and other projects Ms. LB brings us f
